This year, Nickelodeon’s Toy Sprint with Toys R Us dared local-is-lekker actor and funnyman Joey Rasdien to a sprint to collect as many toys and gadgets as possible for a charity of his choice.

The beloved comedian accepted our challenge and raced through the mega Toys R Us store at Mall Of Africa. Sprinting on behalf of Door of Hope, a safe haven for abandoned babies and orphaned children, Joey did his charity proud and stacked a trolley full of toys to be donated to the charity’s baby-houses, based in Glenvista and Berea in Johannesburg.

“I chose baby toys because The Door of Hope takes care of abandoned infants and newborns that are left at their door everyday,” said Joey Rasdien.

Joey was joined by twelve lucky finalists from around South Africa to race against the clock and claim up to R15 000 in amazing toys and gadgets within 60 seconds. The Durban and Cape Town legs of the Toy Sprint took place at flagship Toys R Us stores in Umhlanga’s Gateway Theatre of Shopping and Tyger Valley’s Bellville Park respectively.

Now, the successful Sprint Rangers will go head-to-head in an online video battle to win the grand prize, where the Nickelodeon’s Toy Sprint with Toys R Us South African champion will participate in the Ultimate Nickelodeon Toy Sprint later this year in Singapore.

“We’re so glad we’ve been given the chance to once more impactfully change the lives of children by promoting playtime. Partnering with Toys R Us for Toy Sprint 2019 gives us the opportunity to contribute positively to the world, making it a little brighter for those who need it most. Watching Joey Rasdien race through those aisles for his charity, Door of Hope, was a big highlight.” commented Tasania Parsadh, Channel Director for Nickelodeon for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN Africa).

“We are pleased to partner with Nickelodeon in the give back initiative of Toy Sprint 2019. Toys R Us South Africa is a brand committed to making a positive difference in deserving communities and we are excited to support Joey Rasdien’s charity run in aid of Door of Hope.

“It is wonderful to have Joey involved in this year’s Toy Sprint with Toys R Us supporting a much needed cause as infants form the heart of the Babies R Us brand. We are thrilled to work collectively in making the world a better and fun-filled place for children,” concluded Nicole Jansen Van Vuuren, Marketing Manager for Toys R Us & Babies R Us SA.
